Uncertainty Sensing - Algorithm, Landscape, Pixel. exhibited at the SÍM Hlöðuloftið (2025)
The project explore how machines perceive and interpret unstable landscapes in the age of climate crisis by setting against Iceland’s shifting terrains, and try to bring together algorithmic vision, poetic language, and speculative ecology. Using a spider robot equipped with an RGB camera and a custom AI system, the project will generate real-time poetry and visual projections in response to its surroundings. The robot becomes both observer and storyteller, translating what it “sees” into glitchy image fragments and fragmented texts—offering a machinic perspective on environmental change.

Using the RGB camera embedded in a spider robot, I collected data on Iceland’s emblematic geological features—symbols of its extreme and unstable environment. These include mountains, waterfalls, glaciers, puffins, geysers, and volcanic rocks. This visual data was later processed through the real-time interactive software TouchDesigner to construct a machinic interpretation of the landscape—one filtered through AI algorithms.

By transforming pixels into poetry and landscapes into prediction, the project invites the audience to consider a new paradigm of environmental storytelling: one in which non-human agents narrate their processes of observation and analysis through fragmented memory and interpretation. Poetry—brief, powerful, and at times abstract—becomes the language through which machines communicate their perception of a volatile world.
